Limakport Iskenderun Port Opens Office in Erbil

The summit organized by TISİAD was attended by İsmail Kerem Güzel, member of the board of directors representing LimakPort, Gündüz Arısoy, Limakport İskenderun General Manager and Mehmet Ünlü, Deputy General Manager.
Speaking to Rûdaw, Mehmet Ünlü said, "We see Erbil as a strategic location at the corner of four countries. It can be the logistics and commercial base of the region with the importance given by this strategic location and the strength it receives from history, with its educated young population and the advantage of being an international city."
Ünlü stated that they sponsored the summit organized by TISİAD for the second time.

Limak Holding İskenderun Port was a very actively used port 40 years ago in history," said Ünlü and added the following:
"As Limak Holding, we are the company that built the Zaho Tunnel. We have revitalized that region with a new investment in Limak İskenderun Port. We have been operating the port with a capacity of one million for 8 years now. The port was the port of TCDD. It was also a port connected to the Baghdad railroad. We are trying to connect the Persian Gulf and Iskenderun Port with the Silk Road line. Why Erbil is important for us? We see Erbil as a strategic location at the corner of four countries. It can be the logistics and commercial base of the region with the importance of this strategic location, the strength it draws from history, its educated young population, and the advantage of being an international city. We can achieve this by connecting to a sea port. The closest sea port is Iskenderun Port. Iskenderun and Basra ports are 900 kilometers from Erbil. Erbil is the only international city in the middle of two gulfs. Erbil is a very important crossroads. In this context, we will hopefully open an office in Erbil. Soon we will carry out activities to promote Iskenderun Port.
It is not a short-term project. It is a medium and long term project that we need to work together. In order to make Erbil a logistics center, first of all, the road infrastructure and railway infrastructure must be strengthened. In addition, we need to establish a network that provides direct service to the Port of Iskenderun, and from there we need to establish a network that provides service to Basra. We are talking about a big project, namely the Silk Road, where we can ensure that the cargoes coming to Erbil from China and landing in Basra are brought to Iskenderun via Erbil and the cargoes coming from Europe are brought to Erbil via Iskenderun and distributed to Basra."
Ünlü also noted that Erbil is an important crossroads.
Turkey's Consul General in Erbil Hakan Karaçay, Turkish Enterprise and Business Confederation (TÜRKONFED) Vice Chairman Süleyman Sönmez, TISİAD Chairman Nevaf Kılıç, Erbil Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Dara Jalil Hayat and many officials and businessmen attended the summit. At the end of the summit, TISİAD presented a plaque to İsmail Kerem Güzel, member of the board of directors, and Gündüz Arısoy, General Manager of Limakport İskenderun, on behalf of Limakport, the main sponsor of the summit.
