ISKENDERUN PORT BECOMES IRAQ'S NEW TRADE GATE

The "1st Turkey-Iraq (KRG) Trade and Investment Summit", organized jointly by the Turkey-Iraq Industrialists' and Businessmen's Association (TISİAD) and the Iraqi Kurdish Regional Government (KRG) Export and Importers Association, was held in Erbil, Iraq, under the sponsorship of LimakPort.

KRG Government Spokesperson Sefin Dizayi, Erbil Governor Nevzad Hadi, Erbil Consul General of Turkey Hakan Karaçay, TISİAD Chairman Nevaf Kılıç, LİMAK İskenderun Iraq, Syria and Iran Business Development Manager Mehmet Ünlü and many businessmen from Turkey and Iraq attended the summit.

Mehmet Ünlü, LimakPort Iskenderun International Iraq, Syria and Iran Business Development Manager, pointed out that the investment summit was very productive and said, "We are also a sponsor at this summit where we represent our port and Iskenderun. As Limak, we are not foreigners in the region. Our aim is to increase the logistics activities of this region in connection with Iskenderun Port and open a new business area for the region. As you know, logistics is a very active and lucrative sector and the region needs a new sea port to open a new economic area. As Limak Holding, we have invested nearly one billion dollars in İskenderun Port. We are trying to increase our connections in this region in order to ensure the contribution of this investment to this region as soon as possible. We especially think that the Kurdistan Regional Government can use the Iskenderun Port in Iraq as it has been used in the past. We are trying to explain that the cost and capacity are also suitable. The issue here is that although the cost of trade coming through Mersin is high, Iraqi traders cannot get enough efficiency from Mersin. Iskenderun Port, on the other hand, offers more affordable prices with ready capacity."

Mehmet Ünlü noted that they met with the relevant parties within the scope of their work and said, "We exchanged views on how to speed up the transit process. The Kurdistan Regional Government is a very strategic region and can be turned into a logistics base."

KRG Government Spokesperson Dizayi reminded that KRG President Nechirvan Barzani was received by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan a while ago and said, "Many issues were discussed during the meeting. One of them was increasing economic relations and increasing the capacity of trade throughout Iraq."
